The 40 days of Ramadan
Cathy Emmas and friends
recorded by Hakim Abaht (Hashassin, Ret.)
Each line of the song has its own physical manoeuvre to be performed as it is sung. I shall list out each verse once and you can easily put together the descending days yourselves.
On the first day of Ramadan the prophet gave to me,
A camel in a palm tree.
(On the word camel make a sand-dance arm movement, ie. one arm bent up in a forwards snake, the other arm held down in a backwards snake and move them in and out a couple of times. On the words palm tree, spread your arms over your head, like in the “under the spreading chestnut tree” song.)
On the second day of Ramadan the prophet gave to me,
Two christian knights
(Hold oneself round the neck and pretend to be hung. Bulging eyes etc.)
On the third day of Ramadan the prophet gave to me,
Three more camels
(Another camel manoeuvre as above)
On the fourth day of Ramadan the prophet gave to me,
Four choir boys
(Traditional buggering from behind, pelvic hip thrusts)
On the fifth day of Ramadan the prophet gave to me,
Five gol-den camels
(Another camel manoeuvre)
On the sixth day of Ramadan the prophet gave to me,
Six martyrs burning
(Jumping up and down on the spot pretending that your legs are on fire)
On the seventh day of Ramadan the prophet gave to me,
Seven sexy camels
(Another camel manoeuvre with small pelvic thrusts)
On the eighth day of Ramadan the prophet gave to me,
Eight belly’s dancing
(Sad attempts at belly dancing)
On the ninth day of Ramadan the prophet gave to me,
Nine knackered camels
(Guess what. Yet another camel manoeuvre, but done in a stooped knackered position)
On the tenth day of Ramadan the prophet gave to me,
Ten new commandments
(Waggle finger commandingly and quickly state ten arab-related commandments made up on the spot. E.g.
Thou must not covet thy neighbour’s camel,
Thou must lie to any christian knight,
Thou must drink beer,
Thou must covet any free roaming camel,
Thou must shout “Death to the infidel”
Thou must drink even more beer,
Thou must not kill a camel,
Thou must not steal thy neighbour’s camel,
Thou must not sleep with your wife,
Thou must get completely pissed.
The list need only be done the first time the verse is sung.)
On the eleventh day of Ramadan the prophet gave to me,
Eleven racing camels
(Hold hand to shade eyes, and track head from left to right. Just as if you were watching a Formula-1 race from the sidelines)
On the twelfth day of Ramadan the prophet gave to me,
Twelve whirling dervishes
(Whip out the nearest weapon, and spin around madly on the spot. Good time to assassinate a member of the audience!)
On the fortieth day of Ramadan the prophet gave to me,
Forty camels, thirty-nine camels, thirty-eight camels, thirty-seven
camels, thirty-six camels… etc
(Continue to countdown, until the audience kill you!!!)
AL-SHAHIIIIIIIIIIID!
