Mordred and Excalibur, 1096 AF

Sir Huw de Grognard

BELITH SUMMONED

On Friday, Lady Karlennon as the Guardian of the Swords of Waylund summoned Belith, Sword of Might, the Last of the Seven Swords of Waylund.

THE EYE OF THE LAUGHING ONE

Members from the Harlequins, the Watchers of Darkwood, the Emerald Company and Duke Tarragon were successful in the quest for the Eye of the Laughing One. This was required in the ritual for Excalibur. At one point in the quest only a person of lowly rank could progress. So one of the Emerald Company wielded Duke Tarragon Sword of Waylund.

SUMMONING EXCALIBUR

Every time in a new age that the ritual to summon Excalibur was performed, it took on a new form. In this age, the ritual was performed by three women of Albion. These were Lady Kathen Fairchild, Lady Lysandra, and the Guardian of the Swords, Lady Elspeth Karlennon. Lady Kathen and Lady Lysandra led the full ritual groups of both Harts, Lions, and others with a strong link to Albion and the Pendragon.
The Eye of the Laughing One, recently quested for by the Harlequins (for whom the Laughing One is an ancient Ancestor), was used to find where the sword Excalibur lay in physical form. The Hunter appeared with the sword, and gave it to Lady Elspeth. The Hunter then took the Eye as he left.
The Sword Bearers formed a ring around Lady Karlennon, who held the sword Excalibur aloft, and one by one the essence of each Sword of Waylund was transmitted into Excalibur. Then, the Ritualists and their contributors started circling Lady Karlennon and intensifying the power, until with a great sound, and surge of power that threw all but the three Ladies to the ground. The essence of Excalibur rejoined the physical form of the sword.

MORDRED AND EXCALIBUR

Despite the circle having been sealed, the Chaos Knights were able to breach the seals despite the valiant efforts of the Hunters including Baroness Zircon, General Tarn, Talistar, Uriah Moss and Cerian. Probably this was due to Chaos being already present within the circle. The Chaos Knights were drawn to the centre one by one (Mayhem, Oblivion, Random, Disorder, Reaper, Executioner, Discord) and vanished to form Mordred. Once the ritual was accomplished, Mordred who is the embodied Pattern of Chaos, arrived and took Excalibur from Lady Elspeth’s grasp. She collapsed unconscious.

MORDRED ACCUSED MASTER BLACK OF BETRAYAL

Mordred accused Lady Lysandra of betraying him and her loyalty to Chaos by taking part in the ritual. He said that he would take revenge; although she denied any betrayal, saying that her loyalties were to Floris Brand, Albion, and her friends.

LADY ELSPETH RETIRES TO EATON

With the disappearance of Excalibur, Lady Kathen resumed control, and the circle was closed down once all within the circle were revived. Lady Elspeth was taken back to Eaton to try to recover, escorted by her bodyguards Baron Jasper and Sir Jonathan, and did not return until the following morning.

MORDRED CANNOT WIELD EXCALIBUR

Although Mordred held Excalibur, he did not seem to be able to wield it against anyone. It seems that the only person able pick the sword up without serious harm or even death is Lady Elspeth.

COMMUNISTS PROMOTE MORDRED TO KNIGHT

Oblivion who became part of Mordred, had the People’s Hammer that did crushing blows. This could only be wielded by a non-ranked person. So the Communist Party of Erin promoted Mordred to a knight. He became bored with not being able to cause damage with this so threw it down in disgust. It is thought to be in the hands of Drow.

MORDRED AND THE HARTS

Mordred arrived at the Harts camp and after an interesting discussion, he promised to give Excalibur to the Harts if we win in the battle or to the Dragons in a stone. It was clear that Mordred wished to rid himself of this troublesome sword that was keeping his fun (chaos) in check.

TALISTAR BODYGUARDS MORDRED

Talistar and Cerian both bodyguards of Lord Calin of the Hunters were enticed by Mordred to satisfy his sense of humour and acted as his bodyguard until Mordred became rather bored with them.

MORDRED BEFRIENDS BEARS

Mordred visited the Bears first on Sunday afternoon and asked to speak with the Queens. The Bears were in no position to deny him. He sat down upon a ‘Seat’ and by some strange power caste a spell over all present forcing them to agree with his every suggestion. He made the Queens and Lord Wraith agree to side with the Dragons against the Harts. Before he stood to leave, he compelled the Bears to hop on one leg. The power gradually wore off after time.
In the evening, he returned with a much lighter demeanour. He was glad to be offered a beer complaining that he had just been to the Harts and all they had offered him was Cake and Square bits at that.

RORY McTwatem, THE NEXT PENDRAGON?

Rory McTwatem picked up Excalibur (which Mordred had discarded) while in the Bears high command tent. He immediately collapsed, apparently not from alcohol, but by some power of the sword. According to his friends, “His mind seems unaffected. Alas, he is as dead and useless as it has always been.”
